PRIMARY SCHOOLS POETRY COMPETITION 2015

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS COMPETITION IS CONFINED TO PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN NORTH TIPPERARY.

Over the past years, our competition judge, acclaimed children’s author and illustrator Mary Arrigan has been hugely impressed by the high standard of entries submitted for this competition, and she says she is looking forward to judging the poems again this year.

Winners will be contacted through their schools and invited to attend the prize giving ceremony at Lough Derg Yacht Club, Dromineer, Co. Tipperary, Saturday afternoon October 3 at 2.30pm

At this event Mary Arrigan will announce the recipients of the awards and, before reading the winning poems, will tell the audience why she has chosen them.  This is one of the most delightful parts of the annual Dromineer Literary Festival celebrations.

The school children, their family and teachers are welcome to attend this event.  (Following the children's award ceremony, there will be a brief interval, when parents can take their children home, before the adult's competition awards begin.)

The theme for this year’s children’s competition is 'Play'

Entry is free.  There are two categories:
1. 3rd and 4th Class
2. 5th and 6th Class

Prizes for both competitions are book tokens sponsored by The Book Shop, Nenagh: 1st Prize €20, 2nd Prize €15, 3rd Prize €10.

Submissions should be marked “Dromineer Literary Festival Schools Competition” and posted to:
  • The Arts Office, North Tipperary County Council, Civic Offices, Limerick Road, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, on or by September 12th 2015
  • A note of the child’s school, school telephone number and class should be put on each entry so that we may contact the winners.

Warm thanks to Margaret Folan, who is working as a volunteer with the festival committee this year co-ordinating the Schools Competition.
